Day 2, 12th March – We arrive in Argentina.
For many of us this is our first time in South America and itself a very exciting part of the trip. Once settled into the hotel, we set out to explore Buenos Aires during the little time we have here. Two very different approaches were taken in this venture – one group of students took the metro to the other end of town. The other group decided to walk, reaching the same destination about three and a half hours later – a rather unplanned but equally interesting means of seeing the city. The 30+ degree heat (or, having just come from Scotland, something that felt rather hotter) served as a stark reminder of how rapidly we would be travelling from one extreme climate to another. Buenos Aires proved to be a fascinating city – a pity we only had the one day to explore it. Nevertheless, with a new capital city ticked off most of our bucket-lists, a thoroughly earned dose of sun and experience (from a long-distance!) of an Argentinean protest we all felt rather satisfied.
